Description

Abstract

Nepal, a country known for its natural beauty and religious plurality, is influenced by various socio-religio-economic life structures. Various differences in terms of gender and sexuality are creating disparity among Nepalese, which is, in turn, affecting them personally and collectively. Women are discriminated against in terms of religious differences, economic imbalance, social inequality, and gender violence and injustice. They are considered inferior beings and are deprived of education, religious activities, and decisive power. From childhood till they become old, women are under the supervision of father, husband, and son. Even before she is born, women are unwillingly branded as inferior, because, according to Hindu philosophy, the birth of a son is regarded as opening the door to heaven or getting salvation. This creates the havoc situation in the lives of girls and women, bringing physical, psychological, and social effects. Not having the privilege to participate as men, women feel isolated and rejected. They have a feeling of low self-esteem, fear, shame, and inferiority, all of which affects them individually and socially. Therefore, the transformational act of the Holy Spirit brings freedom and peace to those who are facing violence and gender differences and who respond towards Him. It is the Holy Spirit's empowering love that brings inner healing and transformation for those who suppress their painful feelings. The Holy Spirit gives them freedom and restores them in community to be a testimony of victory. Thus, the work of the Holy Spirit in transforming individual and community is absolutely crucial in the mission of God.
