This paper begins with a brief look at the friendship between two of the 20th century giants of evangelism, Oral Roberts and Billy Graham. It explores their mutual influence on each other, their understanding of evangelism and gospel in their cultural context, and the important seeds they sowed for the evolution in evangelical understanding of gospel, evangelism, and mission in subsequent years. We inherit our theology and praxis from our predecessors, but that is a dynamic not static process bringing change, refinement, fresh practices and new theological emphases. As we consider the next decade, let us first examine where we are, how we got here, and where we came from.
