Description

Pentecostals draw inspiration from the second chapter of Acts historically, theologically, and as a model to emulate. The rushing wind, the speaking in unlearned languages, the preaching of Peter, the adding to the church of 3,000 new believers in one day, and the daily activities of the believers has been the subject of much biblical examination. What has not so often been researched is what happened to the ethnic groups and geographical regions mentioned in the text; the descendants of those who heard Jesus’ disciples speak supernaturally in the languages of their home regions. Twelve of the 15 ethnic groups or geographical regions mentioned in this chapter are now predominately Muslim. This paper examines how and why this occurred, and in particular how the Middle East, once the “Bible belt” of the world in Apostolic times, has become overwhelmingly Islamic.
