Description
The purpose of this paper is to explore the origins and development of the Pentecostal movement in Jamaica, contributing factors for its growth and expansion, and its current appeal and overall influence on the religious, social, and political life on the island. “Pentecostal/ Pentecostalism” is used in the research to designate “classical” Pentecostalism à la the North American description, and does not encompass the Charismatic and neocharismatic movement. Because of the relative smallness of Charismatic Christianity on the island and the paucity of corroborative documentary sources, only scant attention will be given to the movement.
