The Second Vatican Council of the Roman Catholic Church dramatically changed the Liturgical worship for Roman Catholics throughout the world. Although the bishops of the United States have issued guidelines for Catholic communities who plan to build worship spaces or renovate existing spaces, no process for execution of a plan has ever been promulgated.
The author researched three parishes that developed their own process for building and created a series of workshops to help Catholic congregations to begin the process of building/renovation. Through reflection of Catholic identity, worship priorities, Diocesan expectations and evangelization, the author believes that Catholic communities can build a structure that is functional, meets the needs of the Liturgy, satisfies the Churches expectations and is esthetically beautiful.
